“I have painted since I was a tiny child, frustrated by the limitations of poster paints as I mixed the colours together and ended up with the inevitable brown puddle in the middle of the paper. I still have a memory of an art project at infant school when my class teacher refused to let me add yellow to my design because I’d used enough colours. The result was most unsatisfactory!”
Johanna works in acrylics and oils, predominantly painting landscapes, seascapes and energetic abstracts. Artists who inspire her include David Hockney, Lucian Freud, Herbert Whone, Alfred Wallis Dame Laura Knight and Jamie Boyd. She also creates drawings in pen for her greetings card business, Stickman Cards. Her designs have been popular in publicity, as logos and as one-off greetings cards for a variety of companies from accountants and offshore shipping to teaching studios.
Another huge thank you for the painting, it’s so beautiful and somehow you’ve really captured Rosie’s nature too. When Rosie saw it she said ‘Rosie in the sunshine’ – so that’s its official title now!
